Marlien Delivers Le Catch

Marlien Rentmeester

I first met Marlien Rentmeester in high school when her and her twin sister Coliena moved out here from glamorous New York. Marlien always exuded elegance and style even in her bikini at Will Roger's Beach when we were teens. She later moved back to NYC and the settled here in LA as the west coast editor of Lucky Mag.  She has capitalized on that unique blend of high end taste to create her site Le Catch. What sets Le Catch up from other fashion sites, is that Marlien keys in on designer trends and how one can achieve the same look for a reasonable price. Her mixing of designers with vintage appeals to my sensibility and is also seen in her home design. Here is a mini interview with the marvelous Marlien!

Celine Taste, Zara Budget

January has proved to be a busy month with award season events and birthday parties (guess I know lots of Capricorns!). Looking fashionable in a town where people have stylists or  big budgets can be a challenge and that's why Zara can be a life saver. I like to wear mostly (eco-glamorous) vintage, but I still want to stay modern and chic so mixing it with new pieces usually helps. This week I had a dinner for Christian Dior Beauty that my lovely friends host every year. I decided to pair a vintage velvet top with rhinestones with my new favorite velvet harem pants from Zara. The black pumps may look like Christian Louboutin but they are also Zara.

The following night I was invited to a Vogue magazine fashion show for Alberta Ferretti which was beautiful. The clothes were made with true craftsmanship and the vibe was a late sixties feeling with a classy modern take. I was able to borrow a sample dress in winter white from Ferretti and I paired it with last season's Zara tuxedo jacket and boots.

Last Days of Autumn at Farmer’s Market

To bake my mom's recipe for apple galette (recipe in next posting) I went in search of delicious apples at the Santa Monica Farmer's market. EILEEN FISHER provided the skirt and cozy sweater which was perfect for a crisp autumn morn, and off Mel Blanchard and I went! Our first stop was at the pumpkin stand because tis' still pumpkin pie season. They also are perfect vessels for floral arrangements hollowed out as my  lovely friend Jenni Kayne had at her dinner party. We also sought out pomegranates for a an incredible Persian stew of pomegranates and walnuts (recipe later this month). Along the way we discovered cheddar cauliflower (great roasted with olive oil, fennel seeds and sea salt), multi colored carrots, flowers for winter arrangements, and my favorite cranberry beans!
