Summer Oils

Restoring Skin Naturally

Since starting The Local Rose almost 6 years ago, I have been praising the benefits of using oil for the face and body rather than creams. Now a few years later, oil use has become almost mainstream. In your late 30s, wrinkles suddenly show up because the skin’s natural oils decrease, the moisture barrier breaks down, and the skin dries out. Most creams contain a little oil, but not enough to make a big difference in water loss. Because oils are lipophilic, or fat loving, they pass though the lipid layer of the skin faster, preventing water loss and plumping skin with moisture more effectively.

For more natural beauty regimens, see The Local Rose.

Most of the time I use my own Rose Face oil, however I have become a bonafide oil junkie so it’s always a joy to discover other amazing ones. These are my favorites picks for helping dehydrated summer skin and hair. They are all chemical free and use some incredible botanicals. Nothing feels better after a hot, dry, day then soaking your face in beneficial oils that can restore your skin!

~ Bottega Organica
The after sun body oil feels very potent. The scent is very true to wild botanicals. I also love the texture and smell of their Extra Nourishing Vanilla Serum. The vanilla scent feels like your skin is getting a treat. The products all seem very rich in plant energy and nourishing to the skin.

~ Pacific Face Oil
I first began using Pacific oil when they first branched off from Marie Veronique. I was impressed with their use of chia seed, papaya seed and kiwi seed oils which you don’t find regularly. These oils all rich in omega 3’s. The oil feels powerful and gets absorbed easily. I recently had the good fortune of visiting Hilary Peterson behind the brand at their charming Mill Valley Location. Needless to say I fell in love with the shop and area!

~ Feather Eagle Sky
This elevated line is made by a spiritual mama Jessika Le Corre in Taos NM. Her beauty face oil smells lovely and has beneficial ingredients like carrot seed oil and neroli essential oils. I love putting some on the decolletage area as well to protect from sun damage and aging. She also has a blog that captures her nature loving life in the beauty of the South West. I was so thrilled to be featured on it recently.

~ Vintner’s Daughter
This is a divine face oil that smells like a fresh picked bouquet. Made by Napa vintner April Gargiulo, who spent two years of research to create this phytoactive serum. Instead of using extracts, they apply winemaking techniques to use the whole plant. This whole process takes 8 weeks to achieve which adds to the potency of the oil.

~ Briogeo Rosarco Oil –
I’m am really enjoying this lightweight oil treatment that blends coconut oil, argan and rose hip oils for the dry tresses of summer. It also smells wonderful! I use a few drops on my ends to help with split ends and fly away wisps. Being in the salt water and sun can really be so taxing on the hair, but using this oil places a healthy barrier between the elements and us.
