Shiva Rose & Angela Lindvall; Green Goddeses

Most of you may know Angela Lindvall as an actress, Project Runaway Host, and super model who graced magazine covers and was a heralded Victoria Secret angel. I know Angela as the smart, eloquent, wonderful Waldorf mom who lives in one of the most beautiful green havens I have ever seen. Part of the reason Angela’s house and property is so exceptional, is because her generous consciousness is in every leaf on the property. Last summer when I was recovering from a broken heart, I would find myself driving up to her house in the mountains to get some peace and tranquility. Her kind Australian Shepherds would greet me at the entrance and the smell of lavender and oranges would fill my senses. Angela has an incredible Kundalini yoga studio set up overlooking the green valley below, a productive bio-dynamic produce garden, uses all biodegradable material and a warm house decorated with vintage pieces,  imagination and nature. She has been living green since before it was fashionable, and is an inspiring, adventurous, loving mama to her two sons.

1) What inspired you to live a green life? Its funny, I grew up in nature in a small town in Missouri and never questioned the natural world and our footprint on it until I moved to NYC. There I started to learn about the waste we create, and things such as chemicals in our food system and depletion of our natural resources and the destruction of our natural world. I was shocked that this stuff wasn’t in the mainstream, or on the front page on the news paper for that matter! I was like, “we have to do something, fast”! I was a bit naive, and wanted to expose this info and stimulate awareness and inspire change through the channels of media that I was now a part of in the fashion world. I started a non profit called the Collage Foundation.. Through the years I have seen “green” become more mainstream, but we still have a long way to go on an industrial level to make a major impact.

2) Does the Kundalini practice change your day to day living?
Many things have, Kundalini being a big one. Through death, divorce, and pains, I changed my world around and realized its the healing of our “inner” world, that will actually be what changes our “outer” world. Kundalini yoga centers me and connects me to my infinite self. It is through my journeys that have brought me to a place of self healing & love, which then effect the whole around me. I believe we as a human race need to heal in order to really heal our planet. I feel women and mothers particularly are a major facet of this change.
3) What is your beauty secret?
Taking care of myself physically, mentally, and spiritually. I believe its a woman’s inner radiance that makes her shine and glow.. that makes her attractive… makes people want to be around her. Eating a diet of whole high vibration foods, yoga, running, and pilates… but mostly our minds… What we believe is what we are. FEELing good, means you look good. For me this is meditation- and clearing the junk out of my mind. Getting rid of self limiting thoughts.. staying tuned into the light and following my dreams.
4) What is your dream vacation?
I want to travel the world for a year with my kids to ancient cultures…. Hows that for a dream!? Im going to do it
5) Where or what is your favorite meal?
I love almost what I call peasant food. Local, fresh, wholesome food. Root veggies, greens, and fish for example. Clean and simple
6) I love your nature table. How has a Waldorf Education shaped your home and your boy’s lives?
I like the philosophy of nurturing our children’s growth beyond just an academic perspective. It is the inner realms that are nurtured- their spirit, their imagination, their social skills.. Their ability to think, and create. I also like the fact that it limits media, and is old school. Archetypes and fairy tales… that bring out the inner aspects of the human being… I also love the hands on creative aspects of art & music within the academic structure. My kids LOVE going to school, and now a lot more than I did when I was little. I guess what it comes down to is the connection to our natural world, and our spirits… I love that they are held this way at school, whilst learning.
7) How can one help our planet in a simple way?
Spread LOVE. Be compassionate, and serve others selflessly.

8) What book is on your nightstand? The Way of Passion: A Celebration of Rumi

9) Do you have a project coming up?
YEs- travel the world with my kids and share it with the world through a digital diary & social media. I also want to write my own book.
10) Are you a mermaid or forest fairy?
Forest Fairy:)

I am wondering how you handle clean drinking water. I have been buying spring water in gallon plastic jugs but I worry about the plastic leaking. I also use a britta water filter, but worry that doesn’t get out all the chemicals. Any advice?
Thank you so much and I love reading your blog. I came to it through Eileen fisher.

Hello Laurie. I had a post last year on water filtration that you may be able to look up. Otherwise I will post on that again. In a nut shell I would stop using plastic for sure. Is there any way to get a glass container and refill that?
