Creative Compost

May 13, 2011 | 3 Comments
To compost is truly to give back to our mother. There is nothing better then completing the cycle of harvesting from the garden, nourishing ourselves with it, then returning it back.  At first I was intimidated by the process and the scientific terminology. It has to be the right amount of nitrogen and carbon material to assist with the breakdown of the matter. It’s helpful to just think of the nitrogen as the green material and carbon as the brown. I am not getting the exact ratio but just trying to balance the two by using common sense. it’s almost like making a cake or layering lasagna with how much you use.  For the green material you can use garden clippings, all natural products from your kitchen (egg shells, coffee grounds). For the brown you can use soil, dry leaves. Pretty much things that were once green but now brown. Grass clippings I’ve heard are not the best to use because they can make the compost slimy and stinky. Hope the video will help!!
