Summer Love Tonic

June 12, 2018 | 5 Comments

Summer time conjures up for me napping in a hammock with a mild breeze cooling our sweaty limbs, kissing salty lips in a forgotten grecian cove, or lounging in gauzy dresses by a river front. It also conjures up sensuous moments with your beloved and how to create desire out of the heat of the sun. This is why I like to steal away for a moment and create an aphrodisiac elixir for a loved one or dear friend. Here is one from from my new book  Whole Beauty where you can substitute any crushed fruit. The idea of crushing and bruising summer fruit for a leisurely drink is all a part of the summer love. Crushed cherries, purple plums or orange flesh of apricots… they are all homages to the goddess within.

The energizing ingredients and bubbly demeanor make this tonic the perfect summer pick-me-up. In addition to being a wonderful aphrodisiac, pine pollen contributes to immune health, balanced hormones, and firm, clear skin. I like to mix the tonic with jun, a bubbly fermented drink made from green tea and honey, or kombucha.

Ingredients

12 ounces jun or kombucha

2 teaspoons pine pollen

1 teaspoon mucuna prurient

Squeeze of lemon juice

Raspberries, for garnish

Strawberries, for garnish

Mint leaves, for garnish

Method

Pour the jun or kombucha into a drinking glass, add the pine pollen and mucuna prurient, and stir until mixed well. Add the lemon juice, then garnish with berries and mint leaves.

      Hi Kim,

Thank you for your comment. The crushed fruit can be added to the elixir for extra flavor or as a garnish.
