Hot cereal with apples and plums recipe

In Ayurvedic traditions, eating a warming, nourishing breakfast that is easily digestible, will give one more energy throughout the day. Your metabolism is like a wood burning fire, and needs support to keep the whole body functioning. Agni, or our digestive fire, are what give us energy all through out the day. To feed this fire, it is good to eat warm easy to digest foods like hot cereals with cooked fruits. This can also settle the nervous system and help with a calmer state of mind.

I like to use my Donabe to make cereals in the morning either with organic oats or buckwheat. You can also use cream of wheat, millet or quinoa if you prefer. By adding some spice like cinnamon, nutmeg, coriander, ginger and turmeric you can also stoke the agni and help your metabolism.

I like to mix around with the cereal adding cooked apples one day with cardamom and ghee and dried plums with ginger and
raw milk another day. You can mix various ingredients and spices to see what makes you feel most energized.

Ingredients:
1 cup of cereal (oats, creamy buckwheat) Makes a few servings
2 cups water
Stewed apples, plums (I usually cook these in butter oil coconut oil in a pan and set aside to add later. I also add a pinch of cinnamon)
1 tbs spices (cardamon, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger)
4 Tbs raw milk, or almond milk
1 tbs butter or coconut oil
1 Tbs maple syrup or coconut sugar or honey

Stir in cereal and water and stir in Donabe or a pot. Bring to boil then lower to a simmer. Keep watching and stirring so it doesn’t burn. As the water begins to evaporate add the rest of the ingredients stirring. Allow to cool and the flavors blend in.

Hello Love your blog! I soak the oatmeal overnight in a combo of almond milk ( any milk) and spring water , in a mason jar. I put it in the fridge. In the morning, oatmeal is velvety and cooks in 2 minutes. I’m going to try your topping suggestions,. thank you!
