I recently heard Malalai Joya being interviewed by the incredible Eve Ensler.
Malalai an Afghan orphan was raised in refugee camps and then became a teacher in secret schools, hiding books under her burqua. She established an orphanage and school in her city and at twenty five was elected to Afghanistan’s new Parliament. In 2007 she was suspended for her criticism of warlords and drug barons. She has survived four assassination attempts, sleeps only in safe houses, always on the move, and must have armed guards all around. She is truly one of the most courageous woman I have ever met. She speaks about helping
her homeland or our “mother” as she calls it. She is relentless in her fight against the Taliban, and now the US occupation which has killed thousands of women and children with cluster bombs.

Her book  is truly inspiring and can be found on amazon.

What an inspiring and extraordinary person she must be! Thank you, Shiva Rose, for attending us all to this wise and wonderful woman. One of these days, Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King and other pure souls of peace and grace (Mother Theresa) shall be given the interceding power to blind all the Evil in the world so its violence and hatred cannot be perpetuated against humanity and earth. And please forgive me for writing this but we are powerless to stop Evil. But may Heaven bless this lady for her courage, devotion, and love. We need fighters like her. They are the melodies we seldom hear. Their notes are drowned in the storm. Merci
