The Canary's Song
February 5, 2012
I resisted writing about my preoccupation with Smart Meters mostly because I don't want to just dwell on the negative where we have little control; however finally there seems to be some changes afoot. My friend Arianne opened my eyes to this issue a few months back when she mentioned how her sister was putting up a good fight up in Northern California, in opposition to the new electrical meters that are being switched out in most cities. Hopefully most of you have the old analog meters; however if you are in Santa Monica, or have remodeled your house, you may have one of the supposedly 'smart' ' digital meters like I do. These meters not only transcend legalities by acting as a surveillance unit, but they also omit high doses of radiation. The folks in condos or apartment buildings really have a horrific situation since they are bombarded with the waves. The meter on my house is against my youngest daughter's bedroom, and so now she has been sleeping in my room until I can have it removed. A few weeks ago I was told I wasn't allowed to tamper with city property though it is on my property. As of last week though, I may be able to replace my meter with an analog one that i purchase myself but i will have to pay a hefty fee. It seems like extortion to me, but I am willing to make some sacrifices in order to be free of these toxic electromagnetic waves. I will see in the next week if this indeed possible.
A friend invited me to the new exhibit at the Hammer Museum which you can read about in Spirit. What was so thrilling for me was it reawakened my wonder and love for art. All the worrying about the bees dying, smart meters, Monsanto, etc. has left me a little dull. To be able to be reminded of the beauty of art, music, film, dance, is like a shot of life through my veins. Oh yes that's why art does exist! I can't just be a canary in the mine shaft warning about the impending doom. After all canaries do sing too . . .
