Bountiful Garden

Spring is approaching here in California which makes me want to start planting and nurturing our Great Mother. I realized the other day when digging with a stick, that i should really invest in some proper gardening tools. The ones I have always seem to disappear but this time I am going to place them in a proper shed. Here are a few necessities that I am coveting for my garden.

Planting by the moon ☽

1) This blue Wheelbarrow just makes me happy looking at it.

2) This is a great Compost Pail  to keep in the kitchen.

3) Wood handled gardening shears to trim those roses.

4) Patterned tools

6) Garden Tote for the tools.

Heart Gnomes

At the Waldorf school gnomes and fairies are celebrated. We are to make some Valentines for Charlotte's class and this year my friend Ewa is helping us make some simple heart gnomes. We had an afternoon of sewing and chatting which was so therapeutic. They are not too difficult to make and fun to do with the sprites. You can easily find the red felt, organic cotton, and beads for this craft. Look below for the instructions.

Wendy and Vienna

All of this can be found at Michaels crafts and Joann's Fabric Stores.
Red felt
Sticky paper
Felt balls
Beads (we used wooden and pink plastic)
Red silk thread
scissors
needles
organic filling cotton

Ewa made the pattern by drawing the heart shapes and hat shape onto some sticky paper and adhering it to red felt. Then we cut the shapes out. We threaded needles with silk red thread and began to sew the two heart shapes together but left a small space at the top to put in the organic cotton. After filling in the cotton we sewed the opening shut and then kept the needle there added the felt ball for the head. We sewed the head by pulling the needle up through it to keep it steady. Then we sewed the hat and added it to the top. for the gnome hands we sewed the beads through each end of the hearts. the needle goes through the two beads and secures to the base of where the bead is.

Sound Bath and Divine Mother

The Mormon's named the trees in the Yucca Valley after Joshua in the bible because it looked like he was reaching his hands to the sky in prayer. The mystical and spiritual seems to be innate here threaded into the landscape. Our trip felt special because of the connection we searched for either on our hike on the rocks or later in the day at the Integratron. The Integratron was built by George Van Tassel as a magnetic time machine, and scientist claim it is a centered under three flowing rivers making it a spiritual vortex beneficial for healing and meditation. The acoustics in the all wood dome are incredible. We were blessed to have a sound bath with ringing quartz bowls and after an impromptu music jam by the incredible moving Ben Lee and others. Ben Lee sang his song The Divine Mother which I urge you all to listen to.

Home Made Toothpaste

There are some studies that claim Fluoride taken daily is toxic and related to health issues. Since most people get so much of it unwillingly and unknowingly in the water supply, then having it in our toothpaste can be redundant. There are some studies that claim fluoride affects children's IQ levels and can lead to osteoporosis, thyroid issues and even cancer. Most of Europe doesn't flood their drinking water with fluoride actually Ireland being the only country that does. Also the claim that it helps with dental decay is not so accurate. All of these concerns led me to making our own toothpaste which taste just as good if not better than commercial brands. Coconut Oil is known to be an antibacterial agent and helps against tooth decay. If you want a whitening reaction you can always add a drop of hydrogen peroxide to the paste.

Here is the recipe. It's great fun to make with the sprites!

Ingredients:
3 tbs Organic Baking Soda
3 tbs Coconut Oil
20 drops of peppermint or cinnamon oil
2 tsp glycerin
a few drops of stevia or one packet of xylitol (which also fights tooth decay)
