Nourish Urban Rustic Kitchens December 15, 2011 by Shiva Rose What's great about Brooklyn is it has that village type of feeling though you are in an urban mecca. All the charming, quaint, restaurants I went to felt like someone's rustic country kitchen in Tuscany. The decor was usually wood and earthy like Isa above, except for Marlow and Sons which feels like a Parisian bistro. As soon as I walked into Marlow I yearned to be an artist on the verge of being twenty two creating masterpieces in my Brooklyn loft with my bearded brother and his pet pug . . . with Band of Horses playing in the back ground . . . Marlow and Sons Grocery How clever to have a storefront in front of the bistro that carries everything from Brooklyn Kombucha, striped Parisian sweaters, bakery goods, and sliced ham. Marlow and Sons 81 Broadway Williamsburgh marlowandsons.com Aurora is also in Williamsburgh and has wonderful farm to table Italian food. The ambiance is rustic and romantic. The pasta is all made daily. Aurora 70 Grand St. Brooklyn NY 11211 auroraristorante.com Isa a Spanish place on Wythe Street is another farm to table delight in Williamsburgh. I didn't actually get to eat here but I did see the three chefs preparing incredible looking root vegetables in the afternoon light. I love the way this place is so inviting with all the firewood laid out, the hearth open to all . . . No web site on this one. seems they just opened. Vinegar Hill This little gourmet delight is in Vinegar Hill. Again the atmosphere was cosy and inviting. Their specialty is mostly organic meats, but a vegetarian won't be disappointed. I felt like I was in Big Sur via Paris. How great is that combo? vinegarhillhouse.com I couldn't leave without going to a Farmer's Market to see where all the produce is from. I went to one bear Green Point, and it was filled with apples, root vegetables, bakery goods and such. Many of the items I can find here in LA except for the fresh flour. I bought some grounded flour fresh from the stand and will be baking a tart with it this week.
