May Lindstrom

Model and make up artist May Lindstrom has developed a luxurious skin care line that truly will make you glow. May spent 3 years researching and developing this gorgeous line of face oil, body oil, and various skin masks. She uses all bio dynamic, organic and natural ingredients without any chemicals. Maybe this is the secret to her luminous beauty! The body oil called The Good Stuff smells divine with it’s properties of lavender, rose and yang-ylang and has a golden hue to it so it feels like nourishing gold goodness on your skin, and the Youth Dew is a hydrating serum made of incredible botanicals.

The Story:
I really feel doing the spiritual work gets you aligned on your path. I rented my house out last fall for a photo shoot and on my way out I noticed a beautiful pregnant woman who was going to be on the shoot. Months later I got an email from another lovely woman I met in Venice last year who looked so cute in her outfit, that I had to compliment her. Alison Love the woman I met in Venice, emailed me to tell me about May’s products who was the model at my house a few months ago. Synchronicity at it’s best! Also a reminder to be open hearted in our daily life. We never know who we will meet when we stop texting or feeling too shy!

1) What inspired you to start the line?
My journey into skincare began as a small girl. Growing up, I would spend full days mashing wild plants into a pulp and covering myself, and everyone who would humour me in “potions” made from these vibrant green liquids and the clays I would dig from the iron rich soil in my yard.

I am passionate about pure, potent ingredients and about a return to our roots. Our planet provides such an elegant bounty of delicious botanicals, clays, salts and spices that it is hard for me to fathom how we have strayed so far from that to the current trend of hocus-pocus performed in laboratories, mass produced plastic bottles filled with damaging synthetic chemicals and cheap fillers.

I created my line because I had a yearning for something different and when I looked around, I saw that I was not alone in this. Women (and men!) are hungering for skin treats that are nourishing and luxurious, deeply indulgent and beautifully packaged without sacrifice to purity and potency.

I was and still am fascinated by the idea of ritual, setting daily reminders to take time out and indulge in yourself. I am very much a romantic and I believe that the greatest love story begins with yourself and overflows from there.

2) The packaging is so elegant what led you to that look?
Thank you so much! My packaging took two years in total from the first imaginings of the aesthetic to finally having the current version in my hands. I set out to make something beautiful, something special. I want every moment of your self care ritual to feel indulgent and lovely and gorgeous bottles and boxes are a must to create this space.
3) What would you say is your beauty secret?
Good genes! Seriously, my mother is striking in her natural beauty and has always been a wonderful inspiration. Beyond that, eating well is essential. I don’t believe in deprivation – meals should be filling and colorful, nutritionally balanced and warming to the soul. If your insides are happy, your outside will reflect that.
4) Was it difficult to source all natural ingredients?
It can sometimes be difficult to stay ahead of orders. I blend my line by hand in small batches. Ingredients are shipped fresh to my studio in their raw form. Depending on the season, there are occasionally delays or shortages of one thing or another and that can be a tedious process. For me, it is worth it. I source only the very best ingredients from a small handful of trusted vendors. It’s a lot more work and significantly higher expense, but the quality is reflected in the final product.
5) The mask made my face tingle in a wonderful way. Does that mean it’s purifying my skin?
The Problem Solver is magical. I am glad you enjoyed it! When formulating, I always strive to create an experience as well as an effective product. I love feeling my skin respond in the moment to the treatment I give it. Warming spices are very powerful. Not only do they provide an invigorating heat and tingle as they increase your circulation, but these plants have serious beauty benefits.
Cayenne pepper stimulates the blood flow to the skin, which enables oxygen and necessary nutrients to reach the cells. It reduces inflammation and swelling and delivers antioxidant carotenes, flavonoids and vitamins A and E. Nutmeg and clove are both anti-fungal and anti-bacterial, stopping acne in its tracks. Nutmeg is also a natural skin brightener, softening age spots and discolorations and clove has a stimulating effect on the mind, which eliminates mental exhaustion and fatigue. Cinnamon facilitates the synthesis of collagen in the skin, the breakdown of which is partially responsible for the skin’s appearance as we mature in years.
6) Are you a forest fairy or mermaid?
Without a doubt a forest fairy! I grew up on eighty acres deep in the woods of northern Minnesota, with a river running through my yard. It was wilder and greener than I could ever describe and as a child I definitely embraced my inner fairy in my natural wonderland.
7) What or where is your favorite meal?
I have many favorites, but I might be most known for my roasted winter vegetables. I fill my cast iron with baby potatoes, brussels sprouts, mushrooms, radish, whatever I have on hand. Toss it all with generous glugs of olive oil and real maple syrup, sprinkle liberally with salt and herbs (rosemary, thyme, sage) and a big pinch of red pepper flakes. Bake in a hot oven (450) until the whole thing is toasty brown and carmelized. It makes this incredible vegetable candy.
8) What is your dream vacation?
Right now has been the busiest time of my entire life. So I would just love to go somewhere remote – an island of nothing but exotic fruits, lush jungle and endless beaches. Hot days, rainy nights and no access to a phone or internet. If my husband and sweet baby girl could come away with me for just a week somewhere like this, I would be the happiest woman in the world.
9) What book is on your night stand?
I just started reading my daughter the Little House on the Prairie series. I read these as a girl and adored them so it’s fun to revisit!
10) Where can roses find your products?
